from The Panther, Friday, April l, l97l editors note: On February 13, 1897, Delta Chi became an international fraternity with the installation of the Osgoode Hall Chapter in Toronto, Canada which remained active until 1975. Technically, the headline should be "International" instead of "National" at the time of it's writing.~ ΓΩ-10 Delta -Chi has become the first national ‘fraternity to be recognized ' on the UPJ campus. The fraternity colony has formed through a mer- ger of Phi Delta Psi, a local fraternity, into Delta Chi.
Interfraternity Council recognized the new fraternity on March 15 and the Student Senate approved it on March 17. Founded at Cornell University in 1890, Delta Chi has over 30,000 brothers in the United States and Canada. The nearest chapters are ' located at Penn State University, Lehigh University, Gannon College and Youngstown State University. Phi Delta Psi was founded in 1962, and has 123 brothers, 25 of which are presently active. The Penn State Chapter will in- duct the active brothers of Phi Delta Psi as pledge-actives at UPJ before _the end of the term. The pledge-actives will then be inducted as full Delta Chi brothers at the ‘ Penn -State House sometime in May. An alumni association is also being formed. Officers for the new colony will be
The last pledge class of Phi Delta Psi was inducted on March 22. The three new brothers are Dr. Christopher Chweh, Curt Hearn, and Tom Maurer. At Phi Delta Psi’s last Founders Day on March 26, the class presented a 5’x4’ Delta Chi shield to the fraternity. The other brothers to be inducted include: Steve Bobonich, Greg Weaver, Randy Wisnouse, Tom Hebda, Edgar Hartle, Tom Dietz, Keith Dickey, Francis Holnaider, David Burger, Mike Nocera, John Bognoski, Jeff Coulter, Mark Kuczek, Danny Boy, Mark Joffe, Art Flickinger and Jeff Eshelman. |
